Taipei County (台北縣) is in the north of Taiwan, adjacent to the City of Taipei.

Cities

  • Banciao (板橋) is the administrative capital of Taipei County.
  • Danshui (淡水) is a smaller city to the north of Taipei that was the center of shipping and commerce in northern Taiwan in the 19th century. The city is still popular with visitors from Taipei and boasts many historical atttractions.
  • Wulai (烏來) is in a small town famous for its hot springs and aboriginal culture.
  • Xindian (新店) is a city located to the south of Taipei where the apartment complexes of the Metro Taipei area meet the northern end of the Central Mountain Range.
  • Yingge (鷹歌) is a town known for it's high concentration of pottery and ceramic makers.
  • Yunghe (永和) is a suburb of Taipei known for it's breakfast foods.

Taipei County is basically an extension of Taipei City and has a population of about 3,500,000. The county has quite a diverse environment, from the densely populated industrial cities of Sanchung and Shulin to the coastal regions around the town of Danshui and the sparsley populated mountain townships near Shenkung.
